This major milestone is reflective of the Jersey breed\u2019s rising popularity.<\/p>\n<p>Based on national DHI records, the American Jersey Cattle Association estimates Jerseys account for over 7% of the current U.S. dairy herd, which is nearly double their presence from 2000. Jerseys are gaining in popularity compared to other breeds because they are smaller and often more feed efficient, and have higher levels of fat and protein in their milk. Customers also prize Jerseys because of their genetic capabilities for calving ease, high fertility, and suitability for crossbreeding programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great time for Jerseys, especially at ABS,\u201d said Mitch Amundson, Global Dairy Brand Manager. \u201cWe have consistently offered a balanced lineup of Jerseys, both proven and young genomic sires. As we see the market value of butter fat increase, Jerseys can add more profitability to your herd.
