ABS JERSEY BULL WINS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE PREMIER PERFORMANCE SIRE AWARD
For the fourth consecutive year, 29JE3301 IATOLA earned the Premier Performance Sire Award, presented Nov. 11 at the 61st All American Jersey Show, held in Louisville, Ky.
Since the American Jersey Cattle Association introduced the award in 1975, IATOLA is only the second bull to receive the title four times, and the first to receive it in each of four consecutive years.
“Winning this award requires much more than show ring success alone,” says Larry Schirm, ABS strategic account manager. “It also requires the winner’s daughters perform in additional areas important to economic success.”
This award recognizes the bull accumulating the most points on at least two, but not more than six, daughters shown. The award is based on four criteria: 50 percent on daughter placings, 25 percent on the sire’s Jersey Performance Index, and 25 percent on production-based daughter yield deviations as calculated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal Improvement Programs Laboratory.
“Cows can be bred for milk production, cheese yield, and other factors such as type, reproduction and longevity,” continues Schirm. “With four years of winning this award, IATOLA has shown that his daughters have consistently performed in the show ring, while excelling for traits crucial to profitability, such as production, longevity and type.”
